What Is Hardscaping?

Hardscaping refers to the non-living features of your outdoor space that add structure, function, and style as part of a complete landscape design. Experienced patio contractors plan these elements with grading and drainage in mind so the layout works, the materials last, and maintenance stays simple. In practice, hardscaping defines gathering areas, improves accessibility, and gives your yard a finished look.

The elements you will see below are common examples.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had a great experience using DeckPlus to build our screen porch. Ace as the designer/salesperson, Bill as the project manager, and Bruno as the leader of the paint team were all fantastic. They all made wonderful suggestions to help us make our screen porch even better based on their years of expertise and they were all easy to get in touch with and always happy to help. The employees that worked on our house were always so nice and did such high quality work. DeckPlus gave us a reasonably priced quote and were always honest. They set up all the inspections and if there was an issue, they came out to quickly resolve it before getting an additional inspection. We would 100% recommend DeckPlus to anyone looking to build a screen porch. Couldn’t be more pleased with their work and customer service.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Deck Plus did a phenomenal job tearing down my old deck and constructing a new one. My project manager, Bill, kept me informed throughout the process and led me through every step of the way; his communications were prompt and courteous. The company's employees and subcontractors were particularly impressive, from the carpenter, to the electrician, to the roofer. In the end, they designed and constructed a beautiful enclosed deck, which we are enjoying tremendously.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Dennis worked with us to have an old pergola (in disrepair) removed and our deck fixed. It looks night and day and he was a pleasure to work with. We appreciated that he was able to help us easily fix our trex deck boards so much so that he has tracks for color reference when he came to quote. Lovely, on time, and did great work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a permit needed to build a patio?

Often yes, especially if your project includes structures like roofs, walls, or electrical. Our patio contractors handle local permitting in the Charlotte area and guide you on HOA approvals so the build stays compliant.

How do I stop weeds from sprouting between my pavers?

Start with proper base prep and edge restraint from experienced hardscape contractors. Use polymeric joint sand, keep joints topped off, and plan for simple seasonal rinsing. These steps discourage weeds and keep the surface tight.

Will my pavers sink?

Quality installation prevents settling. Hardscape contractors excavate to stable subsoil, compact each base layer, and set the correct slope for drainage. If a section ever shifts, patio contractors can lift and reset individual pavers without replacing the entire patio.
