Deck Plus Transforms A Deck Into A Protected Backyard Retreat
Are you tired of being forced indoors because of too much sun or rain, when using your backyard deck?
Are you frustrated with seasonal insects bugging you while you and your family try to grill, dine or relax outside?
Are you ready for more versatility from your outdoor living space?
Here at Deck Plus, we are frequently contacted by local homeowners looking to improve upon the outdoor living space they already have. Whether it’s an existing deck, porch or patio they wish to extend, enhance or transform we can design and build a solution that best serves your lifestyle and budget.
One of our recent projects in South Charlotte serves as the perfect example of such a transformation. Deck Plus custom designed and constructed a protected, relaxing backyard retreat where an aging wooden deck once stood.
For this particular project, we took an existing deck and transformed it into a super-versatile screened porch. This conversion allows for endless outdoor enjoyment opportunities within a space that protects them from harsh sun, rain and even pesky moquitoes. And, all while retaining all the aspects of being outside. Our custom screened porches let you and your family experience a better way to live outdoors!
Taking the original footprint of their existing deck, we expanded the usable square footage by taking up the space of the original deck stairway. This added more room within the new porch while still keeping the design in scale with that of the home. We added a new stairway from the porch with easy access to the yard. Notice the attention to detail in the stairs themselves, along with the use of vertical solid-board skirting cleverly concealing the space under the porch.
We designed the porch with a shed-style roof to eliminate any interferance with the home’s second-story windows. This roof style has a slight angle that allows for rainwater to easily leave the roof and exit into the gutters, ensuring moisture is diverted out and away from the home and porch.

Taking a look at the interior of the screened porch, you will notice the flooring was installed on a diagonal angle — and this is on purpose! Details like diagonal decking add to the aesthetics of the overall design. The ceiling features a stained finish that mimics the warmth of the floor. Wide screened openings are another detail you will notice, these provide unobstructed views from within the porch bringing you closer to nature.
Of course, Deck Plus always thinks of comfort and function when designing our custom outdoor living spaces. Notice the integrated recessed can lighting, electrical outlets and ceiling fan. These details scream function, comfort and convenience, no matter what you plan to do on the porch, and regardless of the time of day.
Do you have an existing deck you would like to transform or improve? In some cases, it may be possible to convert your deck into a porch, screened porch, or 3-season room. YES!
